Premier Doug Ford announced a significant $25.5 million investment for new housing in Brampton, praising the city’s progress towards its 2023 housing targets.
Funded by the Building Faster Fund, this boost will aid essential infrastructure and Brampton’s Housing Incentive Program. Brampton, Canada’s fastest-growing major city, created 7,397 new residential spaces last year, a significant step towards its target. Brampton’s Municipal Housing Pledge, initiated in March 2023, commits to accelerating new housing supply and sustainable growth.
Aligned with Ontario’s goal of 1.5 million new homes by 2031, Brampton aims for 113,000 new units over a decade, pending support from higher levels of government. Ontario’s Building Faster Fund, a $1.2 billion initiative, incentivizes municipalities to address the housing supply crisis.
Minister Paul Calandra commended Brampton’s progress and urged other municipalities to follow suit.
Mayor Patrick Brown emphasized the funding’s importance in addressing Brampton’s housing crisis and ensuring stability for residents.
Brampton’s rapid growth may soon make it Ontario’s second-largest city, a prediction echoed by Premier Ford. The investment marks a significant milestone in Brampton’s housing journey, promising a brighter future for its residents.
