Prabmeet Singh Sarkaria, the Progressive Conservative (PC) Party Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Brampton South and Ontario’s Minister of Transportation, has officially announced his bid for re-election in the upcoming provincial election scheduled for February 27, 2025. Having represented the riding since 2018, Sarkaria has established himself as a strong advocate for infrastructure growth, economic development, and community well-being.
Sarkaria, who currently serves as Minister of Transportation, has been at the forefront of major infrastructure projects, including the expansion of GO Train service and the development of Highway 413 and the Bradford Bypass, initiatives aimed at alleviating gridlock and improving connectivity across the region. Before assuming this role in September 2023, he held key positions in the provincial government, including President of the Treasury Board, where he oversaw Ontario’s fiscal management, and Associate Minister of Small Business and Red Tape Reduction, where he worked to eliminate unnecessary regulations and support small businesses.
Under his leadership, Brampton South has seen substantial investments in healthcare, transit, and job creation. The Ontario PC Party credits Sarkaria with securing millions in funding for local hospital expansions, including the development of a new inpatient tower at Peel Memorial Hospital, designed to accommodate the city’s rapidly growing population.
His advocacy has also been instrumental in advancing the Hazel McCallion LRT, a project set to enhance public transit efficiency and affordability for Brampton residents. Beyond infrastructure, Sarkaria has prioritized economic stability, working to keep taxes low and promote financial relief measures that directly benefit families and businesses in the region.
Looking ahead, Sarkaria has outlined a comprehensive plan to continue Brampton’s progress. His campaign emphasizes further investment in transit and infrastructure, expanding healthcare access, fostering local job growth, and maintaining affordability for residents. He has pledged to continue working closely with Premier Doug Ford to ensure that Brampton receives the resources it needs to thrive.
“This community deserves strong leadership that delivers real results,” said Sarkaria in his campaign announcement. “Since my election, I have fought for meaningful investments in infrastructure, healthcare, and economic development, ensuring that Brampton South remains a great place to live, work, and raise a family. There is still more work to be done, and I am committed to building on our momentum to create an even stronger future.”
Born and raised in Ontario, Sarkaria comes from a family of entrepreneurs and understands the challenges faced by small businesses and working families. He holds a law degree from the University of Windsor and worked as a corporate and commercial associate at Miller Thomson LLP before transitioning into politics. As a long-time Brampton resident and a father of two, he remains deeply connected to the concerns and aspirations of his constituents.
With the election date approaching, residents of Brampton South are encouraged to engage in the democratic process and consider Sarkaria’s vision for the riding’s continued growth and prosperity.
