A new poll indicates that the federal Liberals could eliminate the Conservatives’ long-standing lead if Mark Carney becomes their next leader. The poll, conducted by INsauga.com, surveyed over 22,000 respondents and found that 47.3% would vote Liberal under Carney’s leadership, compared to 45.64% supporting the Conservatives.
Support for other parties remained low, with only 4.33% backing the NDP and 2.73% choosing the Green Party.
These findings align with an earlier Leger survey, which also showed that Carney’s leadership would boost Liberal support by six points to 37%, putting them neck and neck with the Conservatives. The same poll suggested that if Chrystia Freeland were to lead the party instead, Liberal support would drop to 28%, with the Conservatives maintaining a 39% lead.
The recent rise in Liberal support coincides with heightened concerns over U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff threats and controversial remarks about Canada potentially becoming a U.S. state. These developments appear to have shifted voter sentiment in favor of the Liberals.
The Liberal leadership race will conclude on March 9, when the party announces its new leader. With the next federal election looming, the outcome could significantly reshape the political landscape in Canada.
