Poll Shows Bonnie Crombie Faces Uphill Battle in Potential Mississauga Mayoral Comeback

A new INsauga.com poll suggests former Mississauga mayor Bonnie Crombie would face a tough road if she decided to return to city hall.

Crombie, who served as mayor from 2014 to 2023 before leaving to lead the Ontario Liberal Party, announced on Sept. 14 that she will step down as Liberal leader after receiving just 57 per cent support in a leadership review — well below the backing needed to secure her position.

The poll, which gathered 2,740 votes, asked: “If Bonnie Crombie decides to run for Mayor of Mississauga again, would you vote for her?”

Results were strikingly one-sided:

  • 75.1% (2,058 votes): No – I would not vote for her
  • 24.9% (682 votes): Yes – I would vote for her

The numbers mark a sharp contrast to Crombie’s tenure as one of Mississauga’s most popular political figures, when she consistently won re-election before stepping onto the provincial stage.

Her political standing took a hit earlier this year when she lost her bid for a seat in the legislature, defeated in Mississauga East–Cooksville by Progressive Conservative candidate Silvia Gualtieri. Without a seat, Crombie led her party from outside Queen’s Park — a position critics argued weakened the Liberals’ visibility and influence.

While Crombie still commands nearly one-quarter support locally, the poll highlights significant challenges she would face in regaining public trust if she re-enters municipal politics.

Mississauga voters head to the polls for their next municipal election on Oct. 26, 2026, giving Crombie time to decide whether to make a political comeback or step back from public life altogether.
