Peel Regional Police say there were 40 robberies reported across Mississauga and Brampton between Aug. 21 and Sept. 21, with a quarter of those involving firearms.
Of the incidents, Mississauga accounted for 24 and Brampton for 16. Police data show nine robberies were carried out with guns, 14 involved other weapons, one was a violent purse-snatching, and 16 were classified as “other.”
So far, 13 of the cases have been solved, while 27 remain under investigation. Hotspots for robbery activity this past month included Britannia Road West, Winston Churchill Boulevard, Dixie Road, Lakeshore Road East, and Steeles Avenue West, with multiple occurrences reported at each location.
Notable incidents included an armed carjacking of a luxury vehicle in Mississauga and a botched Brampton robbery in which a man was hit with a Taser. Peel police also recently charged multiple suspects in connection with an auto theft and trafficking investigation that led to more than 100 charges.
Police are urging residents and businesses to take precautions by maintaining good lighting, installing surveillance cameras, reducing cash on hand, and training staff in robbery prevention. Victims are advised to contact police immediately if a robbery occurs.
