PAKISTAN PM SHEHBAZ SHARIF AND ARMY CHIEF ASIM MUNIR TO MEET PRESIDENT TRUMP AT UNGA

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, are set to meet U.S. President Donald Trump on September 25, 2025, during the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, according to reports from Khyber News citing government sources.

The high-level dialogue is expected to focus on a range of critical issues, including Pakistan’s ongoing recovery from devastating floods, regional security concerns, and the geopolitical fallout from the recent Israeli strike on Qatar. Diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan are also anticipated to be on the agenda.

While there has been no official confirmation yet from Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) or the country’s embassy in Washington, the reports come shortly after two high-profile visits to Washington by Field Marshal Munir earlier this year.

Strengthening U.S.–Pakistan Relations
The planned meeting marks a significant continuation of warming ties between Washington and Islamabad. In June, President Trump welcomed Munir to the White House, where the two sides discussed trade, economic development, and emerging opportunities in cryptocurrency.

Days later, the Trump administration announced a trade deal with Pakistan and pledged U.S. assistance to help Islamabad develop its “massive oil reserves.” This announcement came shortly after Trump publicly claimed credit for brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan in May — a claim disputed by New Delhi but acknowledged by Islamabad as a factor in restoring peace.

Strategic Engagement and Investment
Field Marshal Munir returned to Washington in August ahead of the CENTCOM change-of-command ceremony, meeting senior U.S. military leaders including Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine.

In a further sign of renewed cooperation, Pakistan recently secured $500 million in U.S. investment for its critical minerals sector — a move hailed by analysts as a key step toward boosting the country’s economic resilience and resource independence.

The upcoming Trump–Sharif–Munir meeting is being closely watched by regional and international observers as a potential milestone in recalibrating U.S.–Pakistan relations. Analysts expect discussions to address security cooperation, trade expansion, counterterrorism strategies, and the broader regional balance of power.

The meeting will take place as part of a packed UNGA week, with President Trump also expected to hold bilateral talks with several world leaders.
