A federal grant of $25,000 is giving seniors in Clarington new opportunities to connect through culture, creativity, and community. The funding, provided through the New Horizons for Seniors program, is enabling the municipality to offer a wide range of activities for residents aged 55 and over that highlight cultural heritage through art, music, dance, cooking, and storytelling.
“These programs truly bring people together and celebrate the rich cultural diversity across Clarington. It’s a real ‘Together, We Are Clarington’ moment,” said Mayor Adrian Foster. “Our active older adults have plenty of new programs and activities to look forward to.”
The fall lineup includes both free and low-cost programs designed to encourage participation and engagement. Current offerings include Memoir Writing – Telling Your Cultural Story, which began on October 8 and runs for 10 weeks, as well as upcoming workshops like Irish Set Dancing on November 7, a Red Dress Pin Workshop on November 13, and a Fall Dance on November 21. These initiatives are part of the town’s broader effort to foster inclusion and celebrate diverse cultural traditions.
The federal funding is allowing Clarington to expand programs that encourage seniors to share their stories, explore different cultural practices, and build a sense of belonging. The winter program lineup will be available in December through the municipality’s Active Adults portal at
