Oshawa Woman Charged After Assaults and Struggle for Officer’s Gun at Walmart Plaza

An Oshawa woman is facing serious charges after allegedly assaulting two people and attempting to grab a police officer’s firearm at a busy shopping plaza on Monday afternoon.

Durham Regional Police were called to a retail store in the Walmart plaza at Stevenson Road and Laval Drive around 4:30 p.m. following reports of two separate assaults. According to police, the 43-year-old suspect first attacked one person inside the store, who managed to escape, before turning her attention to a second victim.

When officers arrived on the scene, the situation escalated further. Police say the woman tried to disarm an officer by reaching for their gun during the arrest. She was quickly subdued and taken into custody.

None of the individuals involved were known to each other, and both victims sustained only minor injuries.

The suspect, identified as Amy Parsons, has been charged with three counts of assault with a weapon and one count of attempting to disarm a peace officer. She was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
