Ontario’s Future Shines Bright at 21st Annual Peel Skills Competition

The 21st Annual Peel Skills Competition, hosted at Sheridan College’s Davis Campus in Brampton, welcomed more than 2,400 students from Grades 4 to 12 across the Peel District School Board (PDSB). The event served as a powerful display of the creativity, confidence, and technical skill of Ontario’s next generation of tradespeople, engineers, and innovators.

Organized in partnership with Sheridan College and the PDSB, the competition featured judged challenges across multiple categories including TV/Video Production, Character Animation, Construction, Green Energy, LEGO Robotics, Technology, Workplace Safety, and more. These events promote the development of global competencies such as innovation, collaboration, and problem-solving — essential tools for future-ready learners.

Charmaine Williams, Associate Minister of Women’s Social and Economic Opportunity and MPP for Brampton Centre, praised the event for both its scale and impact:

“Ontario’s future is in good hands. At the 21st Annual PEEL Skills Competition, I witnessed firsthand the incredible creativity and confidence of our young people,” said MPP Charmaine Williams. “We must continue to open doors for youth, especially young women and girls, to explore rewarding careers in skilled trades and STEM. Events like this ensure our talent pipeline stays strong, inclusive, and prepared to lead.”

Williams added:

“It was truly inspiring to see so many passionate students embracing hands-on learning. The energy, talent, and teamwork on display were a reminder of how bright our future can be when we support education and opportunity at every level.”

The Peel Skills Competition also acts as a qualifier for the prestigious Skills Ontario Competition, giving top students a pathway to further their excellence on a provincial stage. This reinforces the broader goal of connecting academic learning to real-world experience and empowering students with career-building opportunities.

Sheridan College’s Magna Skilled Trades Centre played a key role in delivering a real-world industry environment, giving students practical insight into the workplace standards of modern trades and technologies.

This year’s event was made possible through the collaboration of educators, post-secondary institutions, industry partners, and government leadership. It highlights Ontario’s commitment to building a skilled, innovative, and inclusive workforce that meets the needs of tomorrow.
