Ontario is gearing up for a winter filled with dynamic weather, as December promises a mix of snow, rain, and fluctuating temperatures. According to the Farmers’ Almanac, residents can expect shifting patterns that will keep the season both exciting and unpredictable.
The month is set to begin with a mix of snowfall and rain showers across the province. From December 1 to 9, northern Ontario will experience steady snowfall, while southern regions can anticipate alternating bouts of rain and snow. Mid-December, spanning December 10 to 13, brings heavier snow, potentially creating picturesque holiday scenery. However, a warm spell from December 14 to 19 may bring rain or mixed precipitation, melting much of the snowpack.
As the month progresses, milder temperatures will dominate from December 20 to 28, but colder air is expected to return by the end of the month. This shift could deliver fresh snowfall just in time for New Year’s celebrations, offering a frosty close to the year. December’s average temperature is forecast at -2°C, slightly above normal, with precipitation around 80 mm, blending rain and snow.
Looking ahead to January and February 2025, southern Ontario is expected to settle into more traditional winter patterns, with colder temperatures and increased snowfall. Significant snowstorms are anticipated in mid-January and late February, ideal for winter sports enthusiasts.
Across Canada, western regions such as Vancouver and Victoria will see a milder but wetter winter, with rain prevailing and snow remaining rare. Southern Alberta, including Calgary and Lethbridge, will experience a mix of rain and light snow. In contrast, Saskatchewan will face colder-than-average temperatures but with fewer storms compared to Ontario.
As the season unfolds, Ontario residents are encouraged to prepare for the ever-changing winter weather. Whether embracing outdoor adventures or staying cozy indoors, it’s time to get ready for another memorable winter season!
