Ontario Voters Cast Ballots as Doug Ford Seeks Historic Third Majority

Ontario voters are heading to the polls today in a pivotal snap winter election, with Premier Doug Ford and the Progressive Conservatives (PCs) seeking a third consecutive majority government—a feat not achieved in the province in over 65 years.

With polls open across the province, Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie, NDP Leader Marit Stiles, and Green Party Leader Mike Schreiner are campaigning for change, hoping to disrupt Ford’s stronghold on Queen’s Park.

PCs Target NDP Ridings: The Ford government has made significant inroads into traditional NDP strongholds, particularly among private-sector union workers. The PCs flipped key ridings in Windsor, Thunder Bay, and Timmins in 2022 and are now focusing on seats such as Windsor West, London North Centre, and Thunder Bay–Superior North.

Turnout Concerns: Early reports from Elections Ontario indicate that voter turnout may be even lower than the record-low 44% in 2022, raising questions about electoral engagement.

Economic and Trade Issues at the Forefront: The looming U.S. tariffs on Canadian exports have been a key issue in the campaign, with Ford positioning himself as the best leader to fight them.

Ontario voters have until 9 p.m. ET to cast their ballots, after which election results will begin to roll in. Stay tuned for live updates as the province determines its political future.
