Officials to Deliver Update Monday as Search Continues After Deadly Brampton House Fire

Police and fire officials are expected to provide an update Monday at the scene of a devastating Brampton house fire that has claimed at least three lives, with two more people still unaccounted for.

Emergency crews resumed their search Sunday for a toddler and an adult believed to be missing after flames tore through a home on Banas Way, near McLaughlin Road and Remembrance Road, just before 3 a.m. Thursday. The remains of one adult were discovered in the debris on Friday.

Peel Regional Police say no further information will be released about the missing individuals until emergency teams complete their search of the heavily damaged structure.

Two adults were pronounced dead at the scene, while four others—including a five-year-old child—were rushed to hospital. Police said an adult male’s condition has since deteriorated, and he remains in critical condition, while the remaining three victims are reported to be stable.

Authorities say eleven people were living in the residence at the time of the fire. The group included nine family members and two additional occupants living in a secondary basement unit. Police said all the residents are related “in some capacity,” but offered no additional details.

Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown stated that the home was not licensed to house that many individuals. He described the property owner as an “absentee landlord” who had failed to comply with required city inspections.

Officials are expected to provide more information Monday as the investigation continues
