No Escape: Brampton Drivers Still Owe Photo Radar Fines Issued Before the Ban

Ontario’s ban on municipal automated speed cameras may have taken effect on Nov. 14, 2025, but anyone hoping their old Brampton photo-radar tickets would magically disappear is out of luck.

According to the City of Brampton, all tickets issued on or before Nov. 13 remain valid, enforceable — and must be paid.

What Happens to Tickets Issued Before Nov. 14?

The city has made it clear:

➡️ Tickets dated up to Nov. 13, 2025, still stand.
➡️ You must pay within 30 days of the ticket date or file a dispute online.
➡️ The provincial ban does NOT cancel existing fines.

Why the Ban?

Premier Doug Ford scrapped automated speed enforcement (ASE) across Ontario, calling it a “municipal cash grab” and claiming it didn’t meaningfully slow down drivers.

What Will Happen to Brampton’s 185 Cameras?

Instead of scrapping them, Brampton plans to repurpose the devices for other safety measures:

  • Red-light enforcement
  • Noise monitoring
  • Road safety analytics

What Isn’t Affected?

The city’s new intersection monitoring system — 360° cameras with licence-plate recognition at 50 intersections — is still rolling out and not impacted by the ASE ban.

Provincial Support for Alternatives

The Ford government will offer funding for non-camera traffic-calming tools such as:

  • Speed bumps
  • Roundabouts
  • Enhanced signage
