A long-awaited infrastructure project that promises to ease decades of traffic congestion near Toronto Pearson International Airport is nearing completion. The $40-million Goreway Drive Overpass in Mississauga’s Malton community is set to officially open to motorists on October 17, 2025, City of Mississauga officials announced today.
The new four-lane bridge, also known as the Goreway Bridge, spans a busy CN railway line, providing uninterrupted travel for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians between Mississauga and Brampton. Officials say the overpass will significantly reduce traffic bottlenecks and improve both northbound and southbound traffic flow on Goreway Drive.
“This project represents a major investment in transportation infrastructure and is a joint-partner project between the cities of Mississauga and Brampton, and CN Rail,” city officials said. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday morning to celebrate the completion of the Goreway Drive/Brandon Gate Drive overpass.
Mississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish, who has championed the project since her days as Ward 5 Councillor, said the community has been waiting more than three decades for this vital bridge. Early work on the project began in September 2023 with storm sewer installation, followed by rapid construction progress after the official groundbreaking in October 2023.
Prior to the construction of the overpass, Goreway Drive crossed the CN railway tracks about 300 metres north of Brandon Gate Drive. With more than 50 freight trains passing daily, the crossing frequently caused severe traffic backups and delays for commuter, commercial, and emergency vehicles.
The Goreway Drive Overpass is jointly funded by the City of Mississauga, the City of Brampton, and CN Rail, with final contracts awarded in May 2023 to Alliance Verdi Civil Inc. of Bolton. External consultants were brought in to oversee the project.
City officials say the bridge will provide a critical north-south connection, improving travel efficiency and safety for thousands of daily commuters and marking a major milestone in the city’s ongoing investment in modern transportation infrastructure.
