Nearly 500 Assaults Reported in Mississauga and Brampton Last Month

For the second month in a row, Peel police data shows nearly 500 assault-related crimes were reported across Mississauga and Brampton. Between July 17 and August 17, a total of 493 assaults were recorded — 228 in Mississauga and 265 in Brampton. That translates to more than 16 assaults every day.

Hotspot areas where seven or more incidents took place include Dundas Street with 13 reports, Dixie Road with 11, Kennedy Road with 11, and Airport Road with 10. Police data does not provide details about the specific types of assaults or the severity of injuries in each case.

Investigators have solved 335 of the reported incidents, while 91 remain ongoing and 67 are still unsolved. Among the recent high-profile cases were a sexual assault at a beach that led to charges against a Brampton man, a teen struck by a car in a Mississauga assault case under SIU investigation, a police officer assaulted during a traffic stop, and charges against a massage therapist in connection with a sexual assault.

Peel police continue to stress personal safety precautions, including avoiding unlit or isolated areas, locking vehicles promptly, not resisting if targeted for theft, and heading to safe public places such as police stations or 24/7 businesses if followed.

The numbers underscore the growing concern about violent crime in Peel Region, where daily reports of assaults continue to place pressure on police and raise questions about community safety.
