Multiple SUVs and Pickup Trucks Recalled in Canada Over Safety Risks

TORONTO — Several major automakers have issued safety recalls across Canada, affecting SUVs and pickup trucks due to concerns ranging from defective airbags to malfunctioning seats and safety system failures.

According to Transport Canada, the recalls were reported between March 14 and 23 and involve vehicles from Chevrolet, GMC, Hyundai, Jeep and Volvo.

General Motors has recalled certain Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks from the 2018 and 2019 model years. A total of 222 vehicles are affected due to defective side curtain airbag inflators that could deploy unexpectedly and potentially cause injury by releasing fragments inside the vehicle. Owners will be contacted and asked to visit dealerships for replacement of the airbag modules.

Hyundai has issued a recall affecting more than 7,000 units of its 2026 Palisade SUV. The issue involves second- and third-row power seats that may not detect obstructions while folding, creating a risk of injury. The company plans to address the issue through a wireless software update or dealership service, while advising drivers to ensure seats are clear before using automated functions.

Jeep, under Stellantis, has recalled fewer than 1,000 units of the 2024 to 2026 Wagoneer S electric SUV. The problem involves liftgate hinge covers that may not be securely attached and could detach while driving, posing a hazard to other road users. Dealers will inspect and repair or replace affected parts.

Volvo has also issued a recall for certain 2025 and 2026 EX30 and EX30 Cross Country electric SUVs equipped with premium sound systems. Faulty electrical connections may disable the seatbelt warning chime, increasing the risk of injury if occupants are not reminded to buckle up. Owners will be notified to have the issue corrected at dealerships.

Transport Canada is urging affected vehicle owners to follow recall instructions promptly and arrange necessary repairs to ensure safety.

These recalls highlight ongoing concerns in the automotive industry as vehicles become increasingly reliant on advanced technology, making regular updates and inspections critical for driver and passenger safety.
