MP Kamal Khera Celebrates Vaisakhi with the Community at Dixie Gurdwara

In a vibrant gathering at the Dixie Gurdwara, Kamal Khera, Member of Parliament for Brampton West, joined the local Sikh community to celebrate Vaisakhi, the auspicious festival marking the creation of the Khalsa by the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

Addressing the congregation, MP Khera expressed her deep admiration for the Sikh community’s commitment to the core values of their faith, including compassion, unity, and equality. “Today, Sikh communities across Canada and around the world are gathering together to celebrate Vaisakhi,” said MP Khera. “This celebration is not only a pivotal moment in Sikh history but also a time to reflect on the profound teachings of Sikhism that advocate for harmony and social justice.”

MP Khera highlighted the impact of the Sikh community in Canada, noting their significant contributions through Seva (selfless service), which resonates with the spirit of Canadian diversity and solidarity. “Throughout Canada, from coast to coast, the good works of Sikh Canadians shine as beacons of generosity and service,” she added.

As we celebrate Sikh Heritage Month concurrently with Vaisakhi, MP Khera emphasized the importance of recognizing and celebrating the contributions of the Sikh community to Canada’s multicultural mosaic. “With over 700,000 members, the Canadian Sikh community represents the largest Sikh diaspora globally, continuously enriching our nation’s cultural fabric,” MP Khera stated.

In her closing remarks, the Minister of Diversity, Inclusion, and Persons with Disabilities extended her warmest wishes to all celebrating Vaisakhi in Canada and around the world. “Vaisakhi diyan lakh lakh vadhaiyan,” she concluded, echoing the festive greetings in Punjabi, which translates to ‘a hundred thousand congratulations on Vaisakhi.’

MP Khera’s participation in today’s celebrations reaffirms her commitment to diversity and inclusion, recognizing the important role of cultural festivals in strengthening community bonds and fostering an inclusive society.
