An 89-year-old Montreal woman, Dorothy Baker, was left lying injured in a Walmart parking lot for over an hour after a fall, with no assistance from store employees, according to her family. The incident occurred on January 11, 2025, at the Jean-Talon Street Walmart, where Baker slipped and fell just meters from the store’s entrance.
Milan Sharma, a passerby, witnessed the fall and immediately offered assistance. Despite his repeated requests for help and blankets from Walmart staff, no employees came to Baker’s aid. Sharma and other Good Samaritans did their best to comfort her in sub-zero temperatures until paramedics arrived nearly an hour later.
Baker was subsequently hospitalized for a severely shattered hip and is currently undergoing extended rehabilitation. Her family expressed deep frustration with Walmart’s lack of response, noting that store management only contacted them after media intervention. Walmart Canada has acknowledged the incident, stating they are “very sorry to hear a customer was injured in the parking lot,” but declined further comment due to the ongoing nature of the matter.
The family is considering legal action, emphasizing the significant impact on Baker’s autonomy and quality of life following the incident.
