Mississauga Transit Fares and City Service Fees Set to Rise in 2026

Mississauga residents will face higher transit fares and service fees starting in the new year, following City Council’s budget committee approval of several increases aimed at offsetting costs and reducing the burden on taxpayers.

Effective January 2026, MiWay cash fares for seniors will jump from $1 to $4.50 per trip. Seniors aged 65 and older will still be able to ride for free if they use a PRESTO card, which the City says is part of a broader effort to encourage electronic fare payment and make use of free transfers between TTC and GO Transit.

Adult and youth transit fares will also increase. The adult cash fare will rise from $4.25 to $4.50, while PRESTO fares will go up to $3.50 for adults (from $3.40) and $2.90 for youth (from $2.65). Monthly passes will also see modest hikes, with the adult pass climbing from $141 to $145 and the Affordable Transit Program pass increasing from $70.50 to $72.50.

Beyond transit, several other city services will see fee adjustments. For the first time, Mississauga will introduce per-lane pool rental fees — $17 per hour for affiliated groups and $35 for non-resident or commercial users. Full pool rentals for community groups will rise to $81.12 per hour (a 5.1 per cent increase), and to $115.76 per hour for residents (a 5 per cent increase).

Animal service fees will also rise by approximately 3 per cent, with the City introducing new cremation services priced at $70 for dogs, $52 for cats, and $26 for small animals. Microchipping, shelter stays, and wildlife removal will also see small inflation-based increases.

According to the City of Mississauga, these combined changes are expected to generate $5.3 million in additional revenue in 2026. Officials say the increases are designed to recover the costs of delivering services and reflect an average inflationary adjustment of about three per cent.

PRESTO cards for seniors are available for $4 at the City Centre Transit Terminal, Shoppers Drug Mart locations, and GO station vending machines. Seniors must show government-issued ID in person to register and receive the discount.
