Lunar New Year Fireworks in Mississauga: What You Need to Know
Mississauga residents preparing to celebrate Lunar New Year on January 29 are reminded that they can set off fireworks on their private property without a permit. City officials note that Lunar New Year is one of five holidays in the year where permits are not required, alongside New Year’s Eve, Victoria Day, Canada Day, and Diwali.
Residents are allowed to set off fireworks from dusk until 11 p.m. on Lunar New Year. However, using fireworks on public streets or parks requires a permit from the city. Officials stress the importance of purchasing fireworks from licensed retailers and following safety precautions.
“To dispose of used or unused fireworks, completely submerge the fireworks in water and soak them overnight,” city officials advised. “Wrap the soaked fireworks in a plastic bag to keep them from drying out and dispose of them in your garbage bin.”
The City of Mississauga also issued a reminder to report illegal use of fireworks via mississauga.ca/fireworks or by calling 311. Residents are urged not to call 911 for fireworks-related complaints.
