Mississauga, ON – Peel Regional Police have laid multiple serious charges, including attempted murder and kidnapping, against a 29-year-old Mississauga man, in connection with two separate investigations involving intimate partner violence and violent criminal activity.
Muhammad Asif, of Mississauga, was initially arrested following an April 15 incident involving intimate partner violence, during which he allegedly used a firearm. A police search of his residence and vehicle uncovered a 9mm handgun and multiple illicit substances, including heroin, cocaine, opioids, and MDMA.
As a result of that investigation, Asif was charged with:
- Uttering threats
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Carrying a concealed weapon
- Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
- Possession of a firearm contrary to a court order (two counts)
- Multiple drug possession offences
In a subsequent development, police identified Asif as a suspect in a March 9 kidnapping and attempted murder that occurred in the area of Burnhamthorpe Road West and Mavis Road in Mississauga. A warrant for his arrest was issued.
On June 2, 2025, Asif was re-arrested and charged with:
- Kidnapping
- Attempted murder
He was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody as he awaits trial.
