A devastating wrong-way crash on Highway 401 has claimed the life of a Milton woman and left a Brampton man with life-threatening injuries. The incident occurred in the early hours of May 5th, around 3:30 a.m., in the eastbound lanes at the Guelph Line intersection in Milton.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported that a 28-year-old woman from Milton was driving her vehicle westbound in the eastbound lanes when she collided head-on with a sedan operated by a 22-year-old man from Brampton. The woman, who was the sole occupant of her vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. The man, also the only person in his vehicle, was rushed to a Toronto area hospital in critical condition.
The aftermath of the collision led to the closure of the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 between Highway 6 and Appleby Line for several hours as emergency crews and investigators worked at the scene.
This tragic event is part of a concerning trend of wrong-way accidents in the region, including a recent collision in Whitby that resulted in four fatalities.
The OPP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and is appealing to witnesses or anyone with information to come forward and contact the Mississauga OPP at 905-278-6131. The community is left mourning as they seek answers and hope for the recovery of the injured.
