More than 700 recycling pickup zones in Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon were mistakenly left out of Ontario’s new province-wide recycling collection contract, according to Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown.
The recycling program, introduced at the start of 2026 to standardize curbside collection across Ontario, has faced early challenges, including confusion over accepted materials, missed pickups, and poor communication with residents.
Brown said he met with the company responsible for recycling collection in the Region of Peel and was informed that 735 pickup zones were “accidentally omitted” when Circular Materials assumed control under the new provincial system. The company has now been authorized to service those areas.
Despite the rocky rollout, Brown expressed optimism that the issues will be resolved as the program moves forward.
Beginning next month, only items placed inside blue recycling bins will be collected, meaning materials left outside the bin — such as blue bags or oversized cardboard — will no longer be picked up. Circular Materials says additional bins will be provided to help residents manage overflow.
Residents experiencing missed collections are encouraged to contact Circular Materials directly for assistance.
