Man Fatally Shot in Vehicle at Busy Brampton Plaza, Police Say

Community shocked by daytime gunfire near Bramalea Road and Dewside Drive

A man is dead following a daylight shooting in a busy Brampton plaza on Tuesday afternoon, prompting a major police investigation and concern among local residents.

Peel Regional Police responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 1:00 p.m. in the area of Bramalea Road and Dewside Drive, a bustling commercial zone surrounded by homes, schools, and places of worship.

According to Const. Mandeep Khatra, officers arrived to find a man inside a vehicle, suffering from “obvious signs of trauma.” Despite immediate life-saving efforts by emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

“This is a very tragic incident,” said Const. Khatra during a media briefing at the scene.
“While this happened in a busy plaza, we believe this to be an isolated incident. We are doing everything in our power to bring those responsible to justice.”

Police believe the suspect or suspects fled the scene before officers arrived. The homicide unit has now taken over the investigation.

Public Urged to Come Forward

Officers are canvassing the area for surveillance video and speaking to witnesses. Const. Khatra said it is still unclear whether a weapon has been recovered, and a motive has not yet been established.

Peel Police are urging anyone with relevant security camera, dashcam, or cellphone footage, or anyone who was in the area during or just before the shooting, to contact investigators.

“We’re appealing to the public. Any bit of information could be crucial in identifying the people responsible,” Khatra added.

The victim’s next of kin have been notified, but his identity has not yet been publicly released.
