Major Revitalization Project Begins in Downtown Brampton

Brampton, ON – The City of Brampton is excited to announce the launch of construction on the Downtown Brampton Streetscape Project, a major initiative aimed at transforming the downtown core. The project will bring wider sidewalks, enhanced street furniture, and modern infrastructure, creating a more vibrant, accessible, and welcoming environment for residents, businesses, and visitors.

The Streetscape Project will focus on key areas along Main Street (between Nelson Street and Wellington Street) and Queen Street (between Mill Street and Chapel Street). The work includes removing existing sidewalks, installing new infrastructure, relocating catch basins, and placing granite pavers and curbs. Construction will be phased over the next few years, with completion expected by 2027.

Mayor Patrick Brown shared his enthusiasm for the project: “This initiative is key to revitalizing Downtown Brampton, improving public spaces, and supporting economic development. It’s a crucial step towards enhancing the quality of life for our community and making downtown a more enjoyable destination for all.”

Regional Councillor Rowena Santos echoed the excitement, adding: “Downtown Brampton is the heart of our city, and this revitalization will breathe new life into our public spaces. It’s an exciting time for Brampton, and I can’t wait to see the positive impact this will have on residents and local businesses.”

Regional Councillor Paul Vicente also emphasized the long-term benefits of the project: “The Downtown Brampton Streetscape Project is about building a stronger and more connected community. By investing in the downtown core, we’re not just enhancing its physical appearance but also fostering a thriving environment where businesses can grow and residents can enjoy a better quality of life.”

The City is committed to ensuring that safe and accessible walkways are maintained throughout the construction period. Any temporary access disruptions will be communicated promptly, and local businesses will remain open with access preserved for customers.

Residents are encouraged to share their ideas and excitement about the project and let the City know what they would like to see in the newly transformed downtown.
