BRAMPTON — Brampton residents planning their Labour Day long weekend should expect some changes to municipal services on Monday, Sept. 7, with City Hall and most City of Brampton offices closed for the statutory holiday while essential services, parks and selected recreation facilities continue operating.
Essential and critical municipal services will continue as usual throughout Labour Day. Fire and Emergency Services, Traffic Services, Enforcement and By-law Services, Road Operations and Security Services will remain operational.
Residents looking for entertainment and activities over the long weekend can explore events taking place throughout Brampton through the City’s Experience Brampton events calendar.
The City is also reminding residents that personal fireworks are prohibited in Brampton. The ban covers the purchase, possession, sale, display and discharge of fireworks except at City-operated events. Sparklers remain permitted. Anyone violating Brampton’s fireworks bylaw can face penalties starting at $500.
Service Brampton will continue operating around the clock during the holiday. Between midnight and 7 a.m., however, staff will handle only urgent requests involving community safety, such as vehicles blocking emergency access, injured or aggressive animals and traffic-signal outages.

Public transit will continue running, but passengers should expect reduced holiday service.
Brampton Transit will operate according to its Sunday/Holiday schedule on Monday, Sept. 7. Customer-service counters at transit terminals will be closed, along with the Clark and Sandalwood facilities and Lost and Found.
The Brampton Transit Contact Centre will remain available from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. at 905-874-2999.
For residents hoping to spend the holiday outdoors, Brampton’s parks remain an option.
All City trails, playgrounds and parks, including off-leash dog parks, will remain open on Labour Day. Brampton has more than 870 parks and recreational trails available across the city.
Selected recreation centres will also open with modified holiday hours, although there will be no registered recreation programs on Sept. 7. Residents with existing registrations are encouraged to check their receipts for holiday exclusion dates and confirm facility hours before leaving home.
Labour Day will also mark the final opportunity of the season for some popular summer attractions.
Beginning Sept. 8, Eldorado Park Outdoor Pool and Professor’s Lake Beach, Boathouse and Inflatable Water Park will close for the season.
The Chinguacousy Park wading pool will continue operating on weekends, while other park amenities move to modified fall schedules, weather permitting.
Splash pads and outdoor pool operations can change because of rain or temperatures below 20 C, so residents are advised to confirm conditions before visiting.
Another recreation change arrives immediately after the holiday, with Greenbriar Recreation Centre scheduled to reopen Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Registration for Brampton’s Learn to Swim and Learn to Skate programs will then open for Brampton residents at 7 a.m. on Sept. 9.
Brampton Library users should also plan ahead because all library branches will be closed for two consecutive days — Sunday, Sept. 6 and Labour Day Monday, Sept. 7.
Although physical branches will be unavailable, the library’s online services will remain accessible. Residents can continue downloading ebooks and audiobooks, streaming movies and television programming and accessing educational and professional digital resources.
The library’s summer reading clubs for children, teenagers and adults will also continue until Sept. 8.
Brampton Animal Shelter will be closed on Labour Day, but Animal Services officers will remain on patrol and will continue responding to emergency calls after regular hours.
Residents planning Labour Day activities therefore still have plenty of outdoor and recreational options, but should check holiday schedules before travelling to City facilities.
With parks and trails remaining open, selected recreation centres operating on modified hours and Brampton Transit running Sunday/Holiday service, much of the city will remain accessible — even as City Hall, libraries and several other municipal facilities take a holiday break.
