KING CHARLES III HOSTS PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP FOR HISTORIC SECOND STATE VISIT AT WINDSOR CASTLE

Windsor, United Kingdom — In a historic diplomatic moment, His Majesty King Charles III welcomed U.S. President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump to Windsor Castle today, marking the first time any U.S. president has been honoured with a second state visit to the United Kingdom.

The presidential helicopter, Marine One, landed in the private Walled Garden at Windsor, where the Trumps were greeted by Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, before being formally welcomed by King Charles and Queen Camilla.

The state visit opens with a day of royal pageantry designed to underscore the enduring importance of the U.K.–U.S. relationship at a time of global economic uncertainty and shifting security challenges.

“It is a great honour to be back in this very special place,” President Trump said ahead of the official welcome, calling King Charles “a longtime friend” and “a man greatly respected.”

Ceremonial Highlights

The ceremonial welcome included a horse-drawn carriage ride through the 15,800-acre Windsor estate, a military band performance of “God Save the King” and “The Star-Spangled Banner,” and a formal inspection of the Honour Guard.

Following a private luncheon and tour of an exhibition showcasing historic U.K.–U.S. diplomatic ties, the president and first lady will attend a state banquet in St. George’s Hall this evening. Up to 160 distinguished guests will gather around the castle’s 50-metre-long mahogany table set with 200-year-old silver.

Both King Charles III and President Trump will deliver toasts celebrating the strength of the trans-Atlantic partnership.

Political and Economic Discussions

On Thursday, President Trump will hold bilateral talks with U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, with a major focus on a new U.K.–U.S. technology partnership and additional U.S. investments expected to total billions of dollars. Both leaders are expected to address global security issues, including Ukraine, the Middle East, and NATO’s future.

Enhanced Security Measures

Given heightened international tensions and recent security concerns, British authorities have deployed a robust protection operation across Windsor and surrounding areas. The smaller, controlled setting of Windsor Castle provides a more secure environment compared to London’s usual venues.

Royal historian Robert Lacey described the choice of Windsor as “a photogenic and symbolic setting,” adding that the visit reflects “an unprecedented level of royal recognition and a reaffirmation of the special relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom.”
