Kidnapping Victim Rescued from Abandoned Building — Brampton Trio Among Five Charged with Attempted Murder

A police investigation in Orillia has led to kidnapping and attempted murder charges against five people, including three suspects from Brampton, after officers found a badly injured man inside an abandoned building.

The arrests took place on September 27, when Ontario Provincial Police responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle and masked individuals on Colborne Street East. Upon arrival, officers located five suspects near an abandoned building. Inside, they discovered an adult male suffering from serious injuries. The victim was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.

With the assistance of K9 units and police aviation, officers arrested all five suspects at the scene. Those charged include Manraj Mann, 31, Dwayne Pennant, 41, and Baltej Sanddhu, 30, all from Brampton; Surjit Singh Bains, 62, of Woodbridge; and Gergy Anthony Gorburn, 51, of Toronto.

They face a lengthy list of charges, including attempted murder, kidnapping, forcible confinement, break and enter to commit an indictable offence, possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearms, careless storage of firearms, and uttering death threats.

All five remain in custody and were scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on Tuesday.
