Montreal diners were in for an unexpected surprise Monday night when former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was spotted enjoying a cozy dinner with global pop star Katy Perry at Le Violon, one of the city’s top upscale restaurants.
According to a video obtained by TMZ, the pair were seated at a dimly lit corner table, appearing deep in animated conversation. The footage, discreetly filmed through a mirror above the bar, shows Perry leaning in as Trudeau gestures expressively during what seemed to be a lively exchange.
Eyewitnesses told TMZ that the duo shared cocktails and several dishes, including a lobster entrée.
Trudeau, 53, stepped down from office on January 6, 2025, after nearly ten years as prime minister. He and Sophie Grégoire Trudeau announced their separation in August 2023 after 18 years of marriage. The couple shares three children.
Perry, 40, is currently on her “Lifetimes” concert tour in Canada, with performances scheduled in Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, and two upcoming shows in Toronto on August 5 and 6. She recently posted about her excitement for the Canadian leg of her tour on Instagram.
Trudeau had also posted photos from a recent trip to Switzerland with his son, adding fuel to growing public curiosity about his personal life. His dinner with Perry has since lit up social media with speculation, though neither Trudeau nor Perry has commented publicly.
Whether it was simply a friendly evening, a fan encounter, or the beginning of something more, the unexpected pairing of a former world leader and a global pop icon has certainly captured the public’s imagination.
