IRCC Invites 6,500 Candidates in First Category-Based Express Entry Draw of 2025

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued 6,500 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in its first category-based draw of 2025, focusing on candidates with French language proficiency.

To qualify, candidates required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 428 and had to have created an Express Entry profile before 4:41 p.m. UTC on February 10, 2025.

This draw marks the fourth Express Entry draw in February, following two Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draws and a Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draw earlier in the month. So far, IRCC has issued 11,601 ITAs in February alone.

The trend for 2025 indicates a strong emphasis on CEC and PNP candidates, aligning with the 2025-2027 Immigration Levels Plan that prioritizes in-Canada applicants. The target for CEC and PNP admissions in 2025 is set at 82,890.

How to Improve CRS Scores for Express Entry

Candidates looking to boost their CRS scores and enhance their chances of receiving an ITA can explore the following options:

  • Provincial Nomination: Adds 600 CRS points, significantly increasing the likelihood of receiving an ITA.
  • Language Score Improvement: French or English proficiency can contribute up to 310 CRS points (or 320 with a spouse).
  • Spouse as Principal Applicant: If a spouse has a higher CRS score, switching roles may improve the overall chances of receiving an ITA.
  • Additional Education Credentials: Foreign education assessments or completing Canadian post-secondary programs can add up to 250 points.
  • Work Experience: Gaining skilled work experience, whether in Canada or abroad, can contribute significantly to CRS scores.

As IRCC continues to focus on targeted draws, candidates are encouraged to optimize their profiles to align with current immigration priorities.
