India to Closely Examine Implications of Pakistan–Saudi Arabia Defence Pact

India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) today said it will carefully study the implications of the newly signed Pakistan–Saudi Arabia Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement, which pledges that any aggression against either country will be considered aggression against both.

The agreement, signed earlier this week, formalizes defence cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and includes commitments on mutual security and joint deterrence. India has taken note of the development and reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding national interests and maintaining regional peace.

“We are aware of the announcement of the agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. India will study the implications of this pact in the context of our security and regional stability. Our priority remains the protection of India’s sovereignty and the maintenance of peace in our neighbourhood,” the MEA said in a statement.

Strategic experts note that the pact could alter South Asia’s security calculus, potentially increasing Pakistan’s diplomatic leverage and deepening defence ties between Islamabad and Riyadh. Analysts are urging India to intensify its diplomatic outreach with Gulf partners to ensure its interests are not adversely affected.

Saudi Arabia has clarified that the agreement is aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation and does not signal a shift in its growing relationship with India.

India is expected to continue monitoring developments closely, engage in dialogue with key partners in the region, and take steps necessary to maintain peace and stability while protecting national interests.
