India Reiterates Firm Stance Amid Trump’s Renewed Claims of Mediating “Very Big” India–Pakistan War

New Delhi — The Government of India has once again clarified its position following U.S. President Donald Trump’s repeated claim that he personally intervened to stop a “very big war” between India and Pakistan. Addressing world leaders from the United Nations podium last week, President Trump asserted that he had successfully prevented a major conflict in South Asia, a statement similar to those he has made in the past.

Indian officials emphasized that no third-party involvement was ever accepted or requested in matters concerning India and Pakistan. India has consistently maintained that all outstanding issues between the two nations, including matters of peace and security, are strictly bilateral and do not warrant external mediation.

Diplomatic sources in New Delhi underscored that President Trump’s remarks are not reflective of the realities on the ground or of India’s longstanding position. “Our approach has always been clear: dialogue, if pursued, must occur directly between India and Pakistan. There is no scope for third-party mediation,” a senior official reiterated.

Observers note that Trump has made similar statements several times since his first presidency, often exaggerating his role in South Asian affairs. Analysts warn that such remarks risk misrepresenting India’s position in the international arena and may inadvertently send mixed signals to global audiences.

The latest remarks come at a time when India continues to strengthen its role in regional stability and global partnerships, with a firm emphasis on sovereignty and direct diplomacy. Indian diplomats remain engaged with partners across the world to ensure clarity about its stance on cross-border relations.

While President Trump portrayed himself as a mediator and peacemaker, Indian commentators and policy experts have responded by stressing the need to prevent mischaracterizations of India’s foreign policy. They also pointed out that India has never authorized any external power to negotiate or settle disputes on its behalf.

India remains committed to peace, stability, and constructive engagement in the region, guided by principles of sovereignty and mutual respect.
