Imposter in Uniform: Brampton Man Faces Kidnapping Charges After Immigration Ruse

A chilling encounter near Bovaird Drive and Airport Road has landed a 32-year-old Brampton man in hot water. Peel Regional Police say the suspect, masquerading as a law enforcement officer, accosted a woman on February 25, grilling her about her immigration status and demanding paperwork under threat of arrest.

The deception didn’t stop there. After escorting the woman to her home to retrieve documents, the man allegedly told her family she’d be hauled to the police station—unless they coughed up cash for her release. When he left with the victim in tow, her quick-thinking relatives alerted police. Officers swooped in shortly after, finding the woman safe and the suspect in custody.

Now, the Brampton resident faces a slew of charges: kidnapping, impersonating a peace officer, theft, and four counts of fraud. “Real officers must identify themselves when asked—name, badge number, police service, and a contact number,” Peel police stressed, underscoring the suspect’s bogus act.

Authorities are urging anyone with details to reach out at 905-453-2121, ext. 2133, as they piece together this brazen scheme that preyed on fear and trust.
