The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) rolled out its red carpets on Sunday with a wave of star power as some of Hollywood’s biggest names arrived for premieres and fan meet-and-greets.
Angelina Jolie, Paul Mescal, Elizabeth Olsen, Russell Crowe, Miles Teller, Tessa Thompson, Jason Bateman, and other A-list actors are headlining screenings across downtown Toronto. Fans gathered along TIFF’s Festival Street on King Street West for a chance to see their favourite celebrities up close.
The day’s events began with the Canadian premiere of Chloe Zhao’s Hamnet at Roy Thomson Hall, where Jessie Buckley and Mescal walked the red carpet. Jolie’s appearance was among the most anticipated, as she joined the cast and crew of Alice Winocour’s Couture at The Princess of Wales Theatre.
Bateman and Jude Law greeted fans at TIFF Lightbox ahead of their world premiere Black Rabbit, while Crowe, Rami Malek, Michael Shannon, and Leo Woodall turned heads at Roy Thomson Hall for Nuremberg, directed by James Vanderbilt.
Later in the evening, Olsen, Teller, and Callum Turner graced the red carpet for David Freyne’s Eternity, while Thompson and Nina Hoss appeared for the world premiere of Hedda at the VISA Screening Room, alongside director Nia DaCosta.
TIFF will continue its star-studded run into the week. On Monday, former Toronto Raptors president and newly appointed UN sustainable development advocate Masai Ujiri is scheduled to appear at TIFF Lightbox for the documentary Origin: The Story of the Basketball Africa League, which also features Barack Obama and Stephen Curry.
The 50th anniversary edition of TIFF has already set the tone for a memorable celebration of global cinema, blending artistic premieres with the excitement of celebrity glamour.
