Highway 407 drivers in Ontario are getting a surprise perk this fall as part of a promotional campaign: some are now able to travel toll-free during rush hour. The initiative, launched by 407 ETR, is designed to ease congestion on alternate routes by giving select customers targeted offers for free highway access.
Eligibility isn’t open to everyone. Drivers can’t apply directly but those with a “My Account” profile who have updated contact details, including license plate and email address, and are subscribed to marketing messages may be chosen. Personalized offers are tailored to individual driving habits, the company said.
The latest promotion began September 1 and runs until November 30. During this time, eligible personal vehicles with Ontario plates can use the highway for free from 7:00 to 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays, excluding statutory holidays. The offer applies across the entire 407 ETR, stretching from the QEW in Burlington to Brock Road in Pickering.
The discount will appear as a credit on drivers’ bills, covering tolls, camera charges, and account fees, though transponder lease fees still apply. Credits may take up to 10 days after billing to be reflected. Promotions cannot be transferred to another vehicle or driver.
Earlier this year, the Ford government removed tolls from the provincially owned section of Highway 407, while the ETR continues to roll out its own incentives to win over commuters.
