Low-income drivers in Ontario will soon have access to free trips on Highway 407, thanks to a new pilot program launched by 407 ETR. The initiative will provide eligible drivers with up to six free trips per month, helping to ease the financial burden of commuting on the privately operated toll highway.
The program is open to Ontario residents who meet Statistics Canada’s definition of low income, starting at an annual income of $28,863 for individuals and increasing based on household size. To qualify, applicants must have a 407 ETR account in good standing, with no outstanding balance.
“We’re proud to provide support for families who need it most, and this program helps ensure that more drivers have access to a fast, safe, and reliable commute,” said Javier Tamargo, President and CEO of 407 ETR. “We hope this program will make it easier for our customers to enjoy a stress-free journey, whether it’s getting to a game or a doctor’s appointment, without worrying about their bill.”
While Highway 407 already offers several financial hardship programs, this new initiative is unique in providing free trips on a monthly basis over an extended period. Drivers interested in the program will need to complete an online application and submit supporting documents, including proof of income.
Accepted participants will receive the benefit for one year, with the option to renew. The pilot program aims to assist up to 200 participants, providing much-needed relief for low-income families in Ontario.
