Highway 407 ETR Tolls Increase for 2025: What Drivers Need to Know

Starting January 1, 2025, drivers on Highway 407 ETR will see higher toll rates, new toll zones, and updated vehicle classifications as the highway operator implements significant changes aimed at managing traffic flow and maintaining its premium service.

Toll Rate Increases

Drivers of light vehicles can expect tolls to rise between 3 to 14 cents per kilometer, depending on the time of day and zone traveled. On average, personal transponder customers may see an increase of $8 per month on their bills.

“With the gridlock issues facing the GTA today, our service has never been more important,” said Javier Tamargo, president and CEO of 407 ETR. “We’re working hard to keep traffic free-flowing while attracting more drivers to less-congested sections of the highway.”

New Toll Zones

The highway is introducing 12 toll zones, up from the current four. Each zone will have different rates to better manage traffic volumes and improve flow. This change allows for more granular pricing based on travel patterns and congestion levels.

Updated Vehicle Classifications

Starting in 2025, 407 ETR will expand its vehicle categories to better reflect the impact of different vehicle types on the road.

  • Motorcycles: 0.8x the light vehicle rate
  • Medium Vehicles: 1.5x the light vehicle rate (e.g., Sprinter vans, larger pickup trucks)
  • Heavy Single: 2x the light vehicle rate
  • Heavy Multiple: 3x the light vehicle rate

Most personal vehicles, such as cars and small SUVs, remain in the light vehicle category.

New Fee Schedule

Drivers using transponders will continue to benefit from lower fees by avoiding camera charges and account fees. The annual transponder lease fee will increase to $29.50 plus tax, with additional transponders available for $11.95 plus tax each.

Where to Find More Information

A detailed breakdown of the toll rates for each zone and time period is available on the 407 ETR website. Toll rates range from the mid-30s to mid-80s (cents per kilometer) depending on time and location.
