Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a winter weather travel advisory for the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and southern Ontario due to heavy snowfall expected to impact morning commuters.
The advisory is in effect across the entire GTA and southern Ontario, stretching from Grand Bend in the west to Cornwall in the east. Bands of intense snowfall moving through the region could significantly reduce visibility, particularly in urban areas.
Snowfall accumulations are expected to reach 2 to 5 cm, though some melting may occur on paved surfaces. Motorists are advised to exercise caution as changing road conditions may lead to hazardous travel.
“Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow,” the advisory warns. “Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead, and be prepared to stop.”
Residents are urged to check local weather updates and allow extra time for travel throughout the day.
