Heavy Snowfall to Disrupt GTA Commute: Travel Advisory Issued for Southern Ontario

A winter weather travel advisory has been issued for southern Ontario, with heavy snowfall expected to impact the GTA and surrounding regions on Friday.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, the storm is expected to bring:

  • 5 to 10 cm of snow in Toronto, Mississauga, and Brampton
  • Up to 14 cm in Durham Region, with snowfall rates reaching 2 to 4 cm per hour
  • Up to 20 cm in cottage country, where a snowfall warning is in effect

Halton Region, Hamilton, and Niagara are not included in the advisory.

The snowfall is being driven by an Alberta Clipper, which will move into the region by noon. The heaviest snow is expected Friday afternoon, significantly impacting the afternoon rush hour.

Motorists should be prepared for reduced visibility, slick roads, and hazardous driving conditions.

Drivers are advised to:

  • Slow down and drive according to weather conditions
  • Watch for tail lights ahead and maintain a safe distance
  • Be prepared to stop suddenly in areas of reduced visibility

As snow accumulates, commuters should allow extra travel time and consider delaying non-essential trips.
