A six-year-old boy has died after falling from the 10th floor of a highrise apartment building in North York, Toronto police confirmed Friday morning. Emergency services were called to the building near Jane Street and Grandravine Drive at approximately 4:25 p.m. on Thursday following reports that a child had fallen from a balcony.
The boy was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, but despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead. In a statement issued Friday, Toronto police described the incident as “very tragic,” expressing their condolences to the child’s family, as well as to the community members and first responders who were on the scene.
“The circumstances surrounding the fall are being investigated,” the statement read. “At this time, no criminality is suspected.”
The heartbreaking incident has left the local community in mourning, as police continue to determine exactly what led to the fatal fall.
