A six-year-old boy has tragically passed away after being found unresponsive in a pond near Erindale Park in Mississauga’s west end on Saturday afternoon.
According to Peel Regional Police, the child was reported missing earlier in the day. Emergency services were dispatched to the area near Mississauga Road and Dundas Street just after 3:30 p.m. in response to the missing child alert.
Crews from Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services, with assistance from police and paramedics, conducted an urgent search of the surrounding area. The child was located in a nearby pond, close to The Collegeway, near the University of Toronto Mississauga campus.
He was rushed to hospital in critical condition, but despite life-saving efforts, was later pronounced deceased.
At this time, no additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident have been released. Investigators are continuing to review the case to determine what occurred.
