Health Canada Warns Consumers to Stop Using Recalled Igloo Coolers Immediately

More than 1 million Igloo portable coolers sold in Canada, the U.S., and Mexico are being recalled due to serious safety risks, including fingertip amputation and crushing hazards, according to Health Canada and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The recall affects Igloo 90-Quart Flip and Tow Rolling Coolers, which feature a tow handle that can pinch consumers’ fingers, causing severe injuries.

While no injuries have been reported in Canada as of February 3, authorities urge consumers to immediately stop using the affected coolers. In the United States, 12 cases of severe injuries have been documented, including finger amputations, bone fractures, and lacerations.

The affected coolers were manufactured before January 2024 and sold in various body and lid color combinations. Consumers can identify their cooler’s manufacture date by checking the date code located under the cooler. If the date code is January 2024 or later, the product is not affected by the recall.

In Canada, approximately 47,000 units were sold, while 1,060,000 were sold in the U.S. and 23,000 in Mexico.

What to Do If You Own a Recalled Cooler

Igloo is offering customers a free replacement handle for affected products. To avoid injury when checking the model number and date code, the company advises consumers not to place their fingers near the tow handle’s pinch points.
