Hate Graffiti Discovered in Mississauga Playground Leads to Arrest

Peel Regional Police have charged a Mississauga woman after hateful graffiti targeting the Muslim and Indian communities was spray-painted on public property near the city’s downtown.

On the morning of September 22, police received reports of a telecommunications utility box and several playground structures vandalized with hate-related graffiti in the area of Webb Drive and Grand Park Drive, just west of Hurontario Street and steps south of Burnhamthorpe Road near John Cleary Park. Officers from Peel’s hate crime unit launched an investigation, which led to the arrest of 29-year-old Freda Looker-Rilloraza of Mississauga.

She has been charged with mischief over $5,000 and released with conditions, pending a future court appearance. Police described the graffiti as containing “derogatory remarks toward the Muslim and Indian community.”

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are appealing for anyone with information to contact Peel Regional Police at 905-453-2121, ext. 6098, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.

Peel police recently established a dedicated hate crime unit to strengthen their response to hate-motivated crimes and culturally sensitive incidents across the region.
