Southern Ontario and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) are bracing for yet another major snowstorm this weekend, potentially pushing snowfall totals to a staggering 75 cm in just over a week. The region has already been hit hard by back-to-back winter storms, with more snow on the horizon.
Last weekend, a weather system blanketed the GTA with 15.4 cm of snow at Toronto Pearson International Airport, according to Environment Canada. This was followed by a mid-week storm that dumped an additional 26.4 cm, causing widespread travel disruptions, school closures, and service shutdowns across Ontario.
Now, forecasters are warning of another significant snowfall event. The Weather Network predicts up to 35 cm of snow could fall over the weekend, with around 15 cm expected on Saturday and another 20 cm on Sunday. If these projections hold, the total snowfall at Pearson Airport over the past week would reach 76.8 cm—just shy of a full metre.
Residents are urged to clear existing snow accumulations to prepare for the incoming storm, which could exacerbate already challenging conditions. The relentless snowfall has tested the region’s infrastructure and residents’ patience, with snowplows working overtime to keep roads and sidewalks passable.
The GTA’s winter woes are far from over, as the latest storm threatens to add to the already impressive snow totals. Authorities are advising caution on the roads and encouraging residents to stay updated on weather alerts as the weekend approaches.
