Germany Bans Islamist Group ‘Muslim Interaktiv’ in Major Crackdown on Extremism

Germany has banned the Muslim group Muslim Interaktiv, accusing it of threatening the country’s constitutional order and spreading extremist ideology. The move marks a major step in Berlin’s escalating effort to combat both Islamist and far-right extremism.

Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt announced the ban on Wednesday, saying the group violated human rights and Germany’s democratic values by promoting antisemitism, misogyny, and hostility toward sexual minorities. Authorities conducted coordinated raids in Hamburg, Berlin, and Hesse as part of investigations into Muslim Interaktiv and two affiliated groups — Generation Islam and Reality Islam.

“We will respond with the full force of the law to anyone who calls for a caliphate on our streets, incites hatred against Israel and Jews, or despises the rights of women and minorities,” Dobrindt said. He emphasized that Germany would not tolerate groups that “undermine our free society with their hatred and attack our country from within.”

According to the Interior Ministry, Muslim Interaktiv used social media platforms, particularly TikTok, to appeal to disaffected young Muslims and promote its vision of an Islamic order above German law. Officials said the group rejected gender equality and LGBTQ+ rights and sought to indoctrinate youth by portraying Muslims as victims of systemic discrimination in Germany’s Christian-majority society.

Hamburg’s Interior Minister Andy Grote described the move as a decisive blow against “modern TikTok Islamism,” noting that the group had become especially active in the northern city. Germany’s domestic intelligence agency also warned that Muslim Interaktiv’s online messaging was designed to radicalize youth and create “permanent enemies of the constitution.”

Ahmad Mansour, a leading activist against extremism, praised the government’s decision, calling the organization “part of an Islamist network that has become significantly more aggressive and dangerous in recent months.”

By Wednesday morning, Muslim Interaktiv’s online presence had been removed, and the group could not be reached for comment.

The ban underscores Germany’s firm stance against radicalization and its determination to protect democratic values amid rising tensions linked to both Islamist and far-right movements.
