George Brown Becomes George Brown Polytechnic, Launches New Master’s Program to Build Ontario’s Future

Toronto’s George Brown College is stepping into a new era — and a new name. The institution announced Thursday that it will now be known as George Brown Polytechnic, marking a transformation that reflects its expanding academic scope and growing role in advanced education and workforce development.

“This transformation is not just a name change; it signifies our commitment to advancing education and workforce readiness,” said Gervan Fearon, President of George Brown Polytechnic. “Our new Master of Construction Management program reflects our dedication to equipping students with the skills necessary to succeed in a rapidly evolving industry and bolster Canada’s productivity.”

The one-year Master of Construction Management program will prepare students for senior leadership roles in the construction sector, offering both technical and executive-level training. Students will learn how to improve productivity, manage large-scale projects, develop strategic leadership skills, and handle complex legal and management issues within the industry.

Ontario’s Minister of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security, Nolan Quinn, praised the move, calling it a vital step toward meeting Ontario’s growing infrastructure and construction demands. “George Brown Polytechnic’s new program will ensure students gain the practical skills they need to lead major construction projects in communities across Ontario, helping our province continue to grow and thrive,” Quinn said.

With three downtown Toronto campuses, George Brown Polytechnic currently serves over 29,800 full-time students and offers 223 programs alongside 175 continuing education certificates. The institution says the new name underscores its commitment to bridging hands-on learning with higher education pathways — from diplomas and degrees to master’s-level credentials — as it shapes the next generation of skilled leaders for Ontario’s economy.
