From Babies to Breakthroughs: Osler’s Big Plans for a Healthier Brampton

The new year has William Osler Health System (Osler) buzzing with energy and big ideas. With its 2024-2029 Strategic Plan, Going Beyond, Osler is rolling up its sleeves to expand hospital capacity, grow its workforce, and deliver top-tier, culturally rich care to one of Ontario’s most vibrant regions. Partnering with health systems, government, and academic heavyweights like Toronto Metropolitan University, Osler is crafting a health care network that’s accessible, innovative, and built for everyone.

The to-do list is packed with bold moves: transforming Peel Memorial into Brampton’s second hospital, planning a cutting-edge Cancer Care Centre with local radiation treatment, launching the Osler Research Institute for Health Innovation, and mentoring the next wave of doctors at a new medical school. These projects aren’t just promises—they’re steps toward keeping world-class care close to home.

And 2025 isn’t just about the future—it’s about honoring the past. Peel Memorial, Osler’s original site, turns 100 this year. A century ago, a determined community raised it from the ground up, brick by yellow brick, to make health care a reality for all. Today, as it evolves to meet modern demands, Osler’s President and CEO reflects on its personal pull. “I started here 35 years ago, delivering babies and working alongside incredible colleagues,” they shared. “Peel Memorial’s story is one of heart and hustle—and that hasn’t changed.” To mark the milestone, Osler’s calling on the community to share memories for the People of Peel Memorial celebration. Details on how to join in are coming soon.

Behind every plan is Osler’s powerhouse team—staff, physicians, and volunteers who bring compassion and creativity to the table every day. As they gear up for what’s next, they’re counting on the community’s backing to make it happen. Brampton’s health care revolution is underway, and it’s got a century of soul behind it.
