Four Days into 2025, 34 Vehicles Stolen in Mississauga and Brampton: Car Theft Crisis Deepens

The surge in vehicle thefts continues to plague Mississauga and Brampton residents, with 2025 starting on an alarming note. Within the first four days of the year, 34 vehicles have been reported stolen across the two cities—14 in Mississauga and 20 in Brampton—according to Peel Regional Police data.

This disturbing trend is consistent with the increasing number of auto thefts seen in recent years. In 2024 alone, Peel Region reported 6,657 stolen vehicles, signaling an ongoing crisis that shows no signs of abating.

Ongoing Investigations

As of January 5, only one stolen vehicle case has been successfully solved. Meanwhile, 32 cases are still under investigation, and one has been declared unsolvable.

Theft Hotspots

Certain areas in Peel Region have emerged as hotspots for auto theft, with Great Lakes Drive in Brampton seeing four incidents within the first week of the year.

The persistence of auto theft has been evident through numerous high-profile cases in 2024, including:

  • Over 100 vehicles, valued at $4 million, stolen near Pearson Airport in Mississauga.
  • A $5 million car theft ring busted, leading to the recovery of stolen vehicles and the arrest of eight individuals, including five from Mississauga and Brampton.
  • A woman from Brampton charged in connection with multiple carjackings in Peel and Toronto.
  • A massive car theft operation involving Service Ontario employees.
  • A stolen Lexus recovered from a Caledon chop shop, with two Mississauga residents arrested.

Peel police urge residents to remain vigilant and take proactive steps to prevent vehicle thefts:

  1. Secure Parking: Park vehicles in locked garages whenever possible, as most thefts occur in driveways.
  2. Steering Wheel Locks: Use visible deterrents like steering wheel locks.
  3. Data Port Locks: Install locks on vehicle data ports to block thieves from reprogramming keys.
  4. Surveillance Systems: Invest in quality video surveillance systems and ensure they function well during day and night.

Car theft is not just a financial loss but also a breach of personal security for residents in Peel Region. As investigations continue, local authorities and communities are working together to combat this alarming trend.
