Food Basics Expands in Mississauga with New Clarkson Village Location

Mississauga, ON – Food Basics, one of Ontario’s leading discount supermarket chains and a division of Metro Inc., has announced plans to open a new store in Clarkson Village Shopping Centre at 1865 Lakeshore Road West, Mississauga. The 24,000 sq-ft location, formerly occupied by HomeSense, is set to open in the spring of 2026.

The new store will serve Clarkson Village residents with Food Basics’ long-standing promise of delivering quality groceries at competitive prices. With its motto “Always More for Less,” Food Basics has built its reputation on lean operations, a streamlined product selection, and high-volume offerings that allow shoppers to stretch their dollar further.

“This expansion into Clarkson Village represents our commitment to growing with the communities we serve,” said a company spokesperson. “The new store will complement our existing locations in Mississauga while ensuring local residents have convenient access to fresh, affordable groceries.”

The opening will not impact nearby Food Basics stores. The Park Royal Plaza location on Truscott Drive will remain open, and Metro will continue to operate its store at Clarkson Crossings on Southdown Road and Royal Windsor Drive.

The arrival of Food Basics also marks the return of a supermarket to the Clarkson Village Shopping Centre. For years, Dominion operated at the site before moving to Clarkson Crossings, where it later rebranded as Metro.

Renovations to accommodate the new Food Basics will begin shortly, with the company promising a modern shopping experience designed for efficiency, value, and freshness.

Food Basics currently operates 146 stores across Ontario, including seven in Mississauga, and continues to expand as part of its 30-year legacy of offering families practical grocery solutions.
