Flights to Washington, D.C. Canceled at Toronto Pearson Airport Following Midair Collision

All flights between Toronto Pearson Airport and Washington, D.C.’s Reagan National Airport were canceled Thursday morning after a devastating midair collision involving a commercial jet and a U.S. Army helicopter.

The crash occurred Wednesday night near Reagan National Airport when a jet carrying 64 passengers collided midair with a U.S. Army helicopter. Both aircraft plunged into the Potomac River, prompting an urgent search-and-rescue operation in the icy waters.

As a result, Pearson Airport confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that all flights to and from Washington, D.C., have been suspended.

“This applies to both arrivals and departures,” the airport stated. “We are monitoring the situation and will provide updates as they become available.”

Passengers traveling to or from Washington, D.C., are advised to check with their respective airlines for the latest flight status.

Reagan National Airport also announced on X that flights are unlikely to resume before 11:00 AM on Thursday as authorities continue their investigation and search efforts.
